Balanced Offensive Attack Guides Men's Basketball Past NEC 92-70 on Wednesday

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Clark men's basketball team (3-0) extended their winning streak to three games with a convincing 92-70 victory over NEC (0-3) on Wednesday night from Bridges Gym.

How it Happened

  • Clark opened the game on a 12-3 run led by three-pointers from junior Mikey O'Brien, first-year Reid Neumann, and sophomore Isaiah Taylor with 15:31 remaining in the first half.
  • After a pair of free throws from junior Bruce Saintilus extended the advantage to 14-3, the Pilgrims got back within eight at 17-9 before a pair of three-pointers from sophomore Ian Calabrese gave Clark a 23-9 lead with 12:38 left in the first half.
  • Calabrese continued his quick start with his third three of the half as the Cougars held a 27-9 advantage and a three-pointer from Taylor made it a 30-11 ball game.
  • Taylor, Neumann, and Saintilus then scored the next six points of the game for Clark and a junior Jordan Richard three-pointer extended the lead to 39-18 with 6:25 remaining in the first half.
  • The Pilgrims then went on a 12-2 run, but Taylor connected on another triple to make it a 44-30 ball game and sophomore Kekoa McArdle and graduate student Joel Arteaga each scored before the end of the half as Clark led 48-37 at the half.
  • NEC got within nine right out of the break, but three's from Saintilus and Neumann as well as a McArdle layup pushed the lead up to 56-39 with 16:44 to go.
  • The Pilgrims battled back to within 10, but Saintilus scored five of the game's next seven points to take a 61-48 edge.
  • The team's then traded baskets for the next few minutes of action before NEC got to within five at 63-58 with 10:27 remaining, but Calabrese buried his fourth three-pointer of the game to regain an eight-point advantage.
  • Another McArdle layup gave Clark a 70-60 with 8:09 to go and another Taylor triple helped the scarlet and white extend the lead to 14 at 78-64 with 6:12 remaining.
  • Sophomore Donovan Price and Taylor combined to score Clark's next seven points as the Cougars held a firm 85-70 advantage with 2:32 to go.
  • O'Brien connected on a three-pointer and Neumann made four free throws down the stretch as Clark won 92-70.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Cougars grabbed 49 rebounds, dished out 18 assists, and forced 18 turnovers.
  • Taylor led the team with 20 points and dished out five assists.
  • Saintilus scored 17 points and went 12-13 from the charity stripe.
  • Neumann and Calabrese each added 12 points.
  • Price pulled down a team-leading 11 rebounds.

What's Next

The Cougars will play their first of three straight home games on Saturday when they welcome York (N.Y.) to the Kneller in a non-conference contest beginning at 1:30 p.m.
