Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (2-2) welcomed Salve Regina (4-0) to the Kneller on Saturday and held a lead at the half, but the Seahawks came back to record a 72-62 win on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Salve Regina held a 8-4 lead early in the contest despite baskets from seniors Jalin Waters and Sarah Zambrano and the Cougars then netted seven of the next nine points in the game as junior Mariah Harris connected on a pair of free throws, senior Julianne Liebow hit a three-pointer, and a layup from sophomore Megan Swedberg made it an 11-10 game in Clark's favor.
- Zambrano made a layup off an offensive rebound at the end of the first quarter as the two teams were tied 13-13 after one quarter of play.
- Clark opened the second quarter on a 12-4 run sparked by five points from Harris, a Waters three-pointer, and baskets from senior Jaqueline Faulise and Liebow as the Cougars led 25-17 with 6:11 to go in the second quarter.
- The Seahawks got back within two before graduate student Cam Richey and Faulise made a layup to extend the Clark advantage to 31-25.
- Zambrano connected on another triple before the end of the half as the scarlet and white took a 37-32 lead into the second half.
- Waters opened the third quarter with a layup on the first possession to push the lead to as high as seven before Salve answered with a run that brought them within two at 44-42 with 7:10 left in the third.
- After Salve took the lead, Harris made a layup to tie the game at 46-46 and an and-one layup from junior Alaina Schatzabel made it a 50-49 contest as the teams traded baskets.
- Schatzabel and Liebow each scored before the end of the quarter as Salve took a 55-53 lead into the fourth.
- Waters and Richey started the fourth on a 4-2 run as the team defenses dominated the opening part of the quarter as the game was tied 57-57 with 5:42 remaining.
- The Seahawks then went on a 9-2 run with the Clark basket coming from Zambrano and a pair of Richey free throws brought the Cougars back within five at 66-61 with 2:24 to go.
- Salve ended the contest on a 6-1 run as the Seahawks came away with the non-conference win.
