Women's Basketball Edged by Wesleyan on Tuesday

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Clark women's basketball team (2-3) played their final game before Thanksgiving against Wesleyan (4-1) and battled with the Cardinals for four quarters, but came up just short in a 67-60 loss on Tuesday night from Silloway Gymnasium.

How it Happened

  • Wesleyan jumped out to an early 11-2 lead as Alana Jones led the team with four points, but junior Alaina Schatzabel got the Cougars back within eight with a made free throw.
  • Senior Julianne Liebow connected on a three-pointer off a feed from graduate student Cam Richey and senior Jalin Waters made a jumper before the end of the quarter as Clark trailed 18-8 after one.
  • Schatzabel got the Cougars back into single-digits with a made jumper with 8:34 to go in the second before junior Jacqueline Faulise converted an and-one layup to make it a 21-15 game with 7:22 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Liebow connected on another three-pointer to pull Clark within three and a Faulise triple with 4:54 to go in the half made it a four-point game as the teams traded baskets.
  • Junior Mariah Harris and Waters went on a 5-0 run as Harris made two free throws and Waters hit a three-pointer to make it a 27-26 game and Liebow hit Clark's final shot before the break as Wesleyan led 34-28.
  • Schatzabel scored six of Clark's first eight points of the second half, with Faulise adding the other two as Clark trailed 46-36 before Richey connected on a jumper to get back within eight at 46-38 with 5:39 to go in the third.
  • Faulise and Schatzabel scored four of the next six points in the game to make it a 48-42 game and down the stretch of the third quarter, Harris, Liebow, and senior Sarah Zambrano each scored as the Cardinals held a 57-48 lead.
  • Liebow cut the lead down to six in the first minute of the fourth with a three-pointer and after the Cardinals pushed the lead back to nine, Faulise converted a layup and Schatzabel made a free throw to make it a 61-55 with 6:35 to go in the fourth.
  • The Cardinals outscored Clark 6-5 over the final 6:35 of the game as Faulise added four more points down the stretch as Wesleyan came away with a 67-60 win.

  • Clark grabbed 42 rebounds, dished out 14 assists, and forced 19 turnovers.
  • Faulise recorded a double-double as she netted 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
  • Schatzabel added 12 points and nine rebounds.
  • Liebow netted 14 points and grabbed three rebounds.

What's Next

The Cougars will return to the court on Saturday when they travel to UMass-Boston for a road contest beginning at 11:00 a.m.
