Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (5-5) extended their winning streak to two games with a 66-58 win over Suffolk (5-4) in a non-conference affair on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Suffolk opened the game with a 6-3 lead despite a made three-pointer from junior Jacqueline Faulise before Clark scored the next six points of the contest sparked by four points from senior Sarah Zambrano and a pair of free throws from Faulise as Clark led 9-6 with 5:13 remaining in the first.
- Faulise later hit a three-pointer with 3:39 to go to extend the lead to 14-8 and a Richey layup pushed the advantage to 16-8, but the Rams ended the first on a 7-0 run as Clark led 16-15 after one quarter of play.
- Junior Mariah Harris hit a three-pointer to open the second quarter and a triple from senior Julianne Liebow pushed the Cougars lead to 24-19 with 8:17 remaining in the second.
- Clark then went on a 7-0 run sparked by four points from junior Alaina Schatzabel, a Zambrano made layup, and a Richey free throw as the Cougars held a 31-19 lead, but again Suffolk scored the final seven points of the second quarter as Clark held a 31-26 advantage at the half.
- The Rams scored the first 10 points of the second half to give themselves a five point advantage, but Faulise ended the Suffolk run with a pair of free throws with 4:44 to go in the third to make it a 36-33 game.
- Schatzabel converted a three-point play with 2:13 remaining in the third to give Clark a 38-37 lead and two more made free throws from Schatzabel as well as a Liebow made triple before the end of the quarter gave the Cougars a 43-42 edge.
- Suffolk retook the lead with 8:06 left in the fourth, but a made layup by Faulise and another Liebow three-pointer gave Clark a 49-47 lead.
- With the game tied at 49-49, Liebow earned a pair of trips to the line and made all four free throws to extend the lead to four and a Faulise made jumper gave Clark a 55-51 edge with 4:05 remaining.
- The two teams continued to trade baskets over the next two minutes and a made layup by Schatzabel off a feed from Faulise gave the Cougars a 63-58 lead with 1:48 to go.
- Clark held the Rams scoreless over the last 1:48 and got made free throws from Liebow and graduate student Cam Richey as the Cougars came away with a 66-58 victory.
