Men's Basketball Drops Holiday Classic Contest Against No. 25 Nazareth

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark men's basketball team (8-3) closed out the Holiday Tournament and non-conference play with an 82-63 loss to No. 25 Nazareth (8-1) on Friday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened

  • Junior Jordan Richard opened the game with a three-pointer off a feed from junior Mikey O'Brien and a jumper with 17:01 remaining in the first half from sophomore Isaiah Taylor tied the game at 7-7.
  • Sophomore Kekoa McArdle gave Clark a one-point edge with a made free throw, but Nazareth answered with seven unanswered points before Taylor made another layup to end the run as the Golden Flyers led 14-10.
  • Sophomore Donovan Price then connected on a three-pointer with 12:21 to go in the half to get back within six, but the Golden Flyers went on a 10-0 run that was halted by a pair of free throws from Richard and an O'Brien three made it a 29-18 ball game.
  • McArdle scored five of Clark's next seven points and his layup with 3:12 remaining in the half brough Clark within 10 and a pair of free throws from Nate Edwards-Roseney made it a 39-29 contest and Nazareth went into the locker room with a 41-29 advantage.
  • First-year Reid Neumann opened the second half with a three-pointer and four points from Taylor brought Clark back within seven before a long two-pointer from Neumann made it a 43-38 game with 17:00 to go.
  • After Nazareth extended the lead back to double-digits, Neumann connected on another triple to make it a seven point game and Neumann answered another Golden Flyer three with one of his own in a 53-46 ball game.
  • McArdle made a layup off an offensive rebound to get back within six and a three-pointer by sophomore Ian Calabrese with 10:58 to go brought Clark back within three at 54-51.
  • The Golden Flyers pushed the lead to nine, but Calabrese again answered with another triple off a feed from Taylor to make it a 62-56 contest and a Taylor layup brought the Cougars within four at 62-58.
  • Nazareth then went on a 10-3 run with McArdle scoring two and a Taylor free throw going down as Clark's three points during that stretch as they led 72-61 and the Golden Flyers pulled away in the end with another run for an 82-63 win.

  • The Cougars grabbed 36 rebounds and dished out 14 assists.
  • Taylor led the team with 19 points and dished out three assists.
  • McArdle recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Neumann also reached double-figures with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.

What's Next

The Cougars will return to the court on Wednesday when they open conference play against MIT at the Kneller beginning at 7:00 p.m.
