Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (4-5) recorded a 70-66 win in a back-and-forth contest against Bridgewater State (7-3) on Tuesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Over the first three minutes of the first quarter, the game was tied 5-5 as senior Jalin Waters hit a triple and junior Jacqueline Faulise made a layup and a later layup from junior Mariah Harris made it an 8-7 game.
- Harris then connected on three free throws with 4:08 to go in the first quarter and buckets from graduate student Cam Richey and junior Alaina Schatzabel down the stretch made it a 14-14 game at the end of the first quarter.
- Sophomore Megan Swedberg and Schatzabel each made layups over the first two minutes of the second quarter as Clark held a 20-16 advantage.
- After the Bears tied the game at 22-22, Schatzabel converted a layup off a feed from senior Sarah Zambrano, but Bridgewater State went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to hold a 31-24 advantage.
- Clark ended the half on a 10-1 run sparked by six points from Schatzabel, including a layup right before the buzzer and buckets from Richey and Harris as the Cougars held a 34-32 lead at the half.
- Faulise hit a three on Clark's first possession of the third quarter and a layup from Faulise with 6:56 to go in the third gave the Cougars a 41-35 edge.
- Clark extended their lead to eight with 4:51 to go in the third quarter on a made layup from Faulise and held the Bears scoreless for the next two minutes before a Schatzabel layup extended the advantage to 49-41.
- Swedberg and Richey each scored over the final two minutes of the third as the Cougars took a 53-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Senior Julianne Liebow opened the fourth with a three-pointer on Clark's first possession with the assist going to Waters and a Faulise layup pushed the lead to double-digits at 58-47 with 8:42 remaining in the fourth.
- After the Bears got back within six, Faulise converted an and-one layup to push the lead back to nine, but Bridgewater State got made it a one point game at 62-61 with 4:01 to go off a three-pointer from Eryn Rice.
- Richey then drew a foul to earn a pair of free throws and made both and a Liebow triple with 2:18 remaining gave Clark a 67-61 advantage as Clark held BSU scoreless for over two minutes.
- The Bears got within three at 67-64 with 1:35 to go, but Clark's defense stepped up and didn't allow a bucket to BSU until the Cougars had a four point lead off a made free throw from Faulise and Caroline Tripp made a jumper to make it a 68-66 game with 0:10 remaining.
- Liebow hit a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining as Clark came away with a 70-66 win.
