Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (7-2) won its third straight game with a 10-9 come from behind victory over Mass. Maritime (4-7) on Tuesday afternoon from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- After allowing a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, graduate student Torsten Sloan Anderson retired the side in order in his third appearance of the year.
- Junior Ryan Caulfield walked and graduate student Trevor Ham was hit by pitch in the bottom of the first before sophomore Samuel Farrell belted a homer to left field to give Clark a 3-2 lead after one inning of action.
- Mass. Maritime tied the game in the top of the third inning and opened the lead up to 8-3 in the fifth inning before Clark's offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.
- In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Anthony LoCasto led the inning off with a double, advanced to third on a fly out from first-year Carter Doran, and came around to score on an RBI double from Ham to make it a 8-4 ball game.
- Farrell then came up and hit a single to left field that scored sophomore Billy Sullivan and Ham to bring Clark within one at 8-6.
- After first-year Matthew Kalinak singled and fellow first-year Ryan Bonja reached base, the Cougars had the bases loaded for junior Anthony Keefe and Keefe belted a ball over the left field fence to bring home four runs on his grand slam that gave Clark a 10-7 advantage.
- Both teams had a runner reach base in the sixth inning before Mass. Maritime added a run in the seventh inning to make it a 10-9 ball game.
- Cockburn didn't allow a hit in the top of the eighth and Clark didn't add a run in the bottom half, so the Cougars turned to senior Zachary Gitschier to close out the ninth and after Mass. Maritime got a runner to third base, Gitschier forced a fly out to right field to give Clark a 10-9 victory.
