Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (8-4) closed out its week with a non-conference contest against Anna Maria (11-7) with a 7-6 loss on Sunday afternoon from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Junior Benjamin Spencer took the mound for Clark and retired the Amcats in order in the top of the first and in the bottom of the first, graduate student Chris Radovic drove in a run with a single up the middle to give Clark a 1-0 advantage.
- Spencer struck out five of the six possible outs in the second and third inning and sophomore Anthony LoCasto extended the lead to 2-0 when he belted a homer to center field in the bottom of the third.
- The Amcats tied the game up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth and Clark quickly regained the lead with a homer to left field off the bat of junior Randall Safron to give the Cougars a 3-2 advantage.
- Clark extended the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Radovic belted a double to left center that scored first-year Carter Doran and Radovic came around to score on a ball hit by fellow graduate student Trevor Ham as the scarlet and white possessed a 5-2 lead.
- Anna Maria added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and the Cougars were able to get runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Billy Sullivan and junior Ethan Belt each stole bases, but were left on base.
- Sophomore Maxwell Gitlin took the mound in the top of the seventh and retired the side, but Anna Maria added two more runs in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead.
- Belt drove in a run in the bottom of the eighth that scored Sullivan to tie the game at 6-6 heading into the ninth.
- Anna Maria scored the go-ahead run in the top of ninth and the Cougars were unable to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.
