BRIDGEWATER, Mass.- Utilizing a clean sweep of doubles, Clark (2-5) picked up their first spring season win over Bridgewater State (3-1) in a three and half hour marathon on Wednesday.
Doubles
• Senior Max Schweitzer and junior Dariy Vykhodtsev got Clark started on the right foot with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Vykhodtsev improved to 6-1 on the season in doubles.
• Junior Sam Pomann and sophomore Tanner Honnef added to Clark's lead by sealing an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles.
• Playing at No. 3 doubles, graduate students Duncan Drapeau and Holden Moore made a big statement with an 8-4 win that helped Clark snatch a 3-0 lead.
Singles
• Drapeau pushed Clark's lead to 4-0 with a convincing straight-sets win at No. 6 singles.
• BSU got on the board at No. 3 singles against Clark's first-year Adrian Ramirez, playing No. 3 for the first time.
• Clark's lead was trimmed to 4-2 with first-year Aidan Hurtado falling in a highly competitive 7-6(6), 6-2 match at No. 2 singles.
• Graduate student Josh Podolsky sealed the victory for Clark at No. 4 singles. Despite losing the first set 6-2, Podolsky gritted out many long rallies to win both the second and third sets by identical 6-2 scores.
• At No. 5 singles Moore took the first set from his opponent 6-3, though he ultimately fell in a nearly two-hour battle by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
• Playing No. 1 singles, first-year Ryan Hovey was up to the challenge. Despite losing the first set 6-4, Hovey stormed back to send it a third set. The back and forth third went to a 6-6 tiebreak, which Hovey finally lost 8-6.
What's Next
Clark begins their NEWMAC season on Saturday by hosting Coast Guard. That match will take place at 3 p.m. from the Corash Tennis Courts.
