Offensive Explosion Guides Baseball to 23-3 Win Over Bethany

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Clark University baseball team (2-1) played its third game in three days on Wednesday night from Griffith Field and scored at least one run in every inning as they recorded a 23-3 win over Bethany (2-5).

How it Happened

  • Graduate student Trevor Ham drove in Clark's first run in the top of the first and a single from sophomore Billy Sullivan pushed the lead to 2-0.
  • After graduate student Torsten Sloan Anderson held Bethany to only one hit in the bottom of the first, sophomore Samuel Farrell pushed the lead to 3-0 with a homer to right center.
  • Senior Andrea Casabianca singled to left field to score junior Ryan Caulfield and eventually came around to score on an infield single from Sullivan as Clark led 5-0.
  • After Sloan Anderson set the Bison down in order, Ham drove in Farrell to push the lead 6-0 and in the bottom of the third, graduate student Steven Mooney threw out a runner trying to steal second as the Cougars held a 6-0 lead after three innings of play.
  • Caulfied drove in a run and himself and Mooney later scored on an RBI triple from Casabianca down the left field line and another scoreless inning from Sloan Anderson helped Clark lead 9-0.
  • Mooney belted a double to right field that brought home junior Ethan Belt and first-year Sean Borden hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth as the Cougars held a 12-1 advantage.
  • Sophomore Anthony LoCasto and David Egan each recorded RBI's in the top of the seventh and an RBI single from first-year Seneca Hillock-Lonstein pushed Clark to a 16-3 lead.
  • Farrell then hit an inside-the-park homerun down the left field line that drove in sophomore Ryan Lavelle and Hillock-Lonstein in the top of the eighth.
  • First-year Tyler Jones walked to bring home a run and sophomore Cory Giannelli plated home three with a triple as Clark came away with a 23-3 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Clark recorded 20 hits in the victory.
  • Farrell led the way by going 3-5 with a pair of homers, one to right center and the inside the park homer down the left field line, with four RBI's and four runs scored.
  • Rulnick went 4-4 with a triple and three runs scored.
  • Casabianca went 2-4 from the dish with a triple, three RBI's, and two runs scored.
  • Gainelli also recorded a triple and drove in three runs.
  • Sullivan went 2-3 with two RBI's and two stolen bases.
  • Sloan Anderson tossed 5.0 innings, struck out two batters, didn't allow any runs, and only allowed five hits.

What's Next

Clark will play its fourth game of the week tomorrow afternoon when they play Delaware Valley beginning at 3:00 p.m.
