WORCESTER, Mass.- After falling 3-0 in doubles, Clark (3-9, 1-4 NEWMAC) took back three points in a 6-3 loss to Wheaton (5-10, 3-3 NEWMAC) on Wednesday afternoon from the Corash Tennis Courts.
Doubles
• Wheaton pick up a convincing win over junior Dariy Vykhodtsev and sophomore Tanner Honnef at No. 1 doubles.
• The Lyons won No. 2 and 3 doubles by identical 8-4 scores. Senior Max Schweitzer and junior Sam Pomann played at No. 2 for the Cougars while first-years Ryan Hovey and Aidan Hurtado played No. 3.
Singles
• Wheaton picked up straight-set wins over Vykhodtsev and Schweitzer at No. 1 and 2 singles to officially clinch the match.
• Hovey got the scarlet and white on the board at No. 4 singles. The first-year looked calm and confident in his 6-4, 6-3 victory.
• The Lyons took No. 6 singles in a 6-3, 6-3 win over graduate student Josh Podolsky.
• After a close 7-5 first set, Pomann caught fire for Clark at No. 5. The junior crushed overheads and utilized both strong defense and offensive volleys in a 6-2 second set.
• Honnef was the last man on the court at No. 3. Despite losing a razor-thin first set 7-6(1), the sophomore showed maturity and patience in a 6-2 second set. Despite being down 7-6 in the third set tiebreaker, Honnef scrambled and never gave up on a point, winning the final four points to clinch a 10-7 tiebreaker, and giving Clark their third point of the day.
