WORCESTER, Mass.- Clark (3-10, 1-4 NEWMAC) lost a clean sweep 9-0 to New Jersey City University (6-4) on Thursday at the Corash Tennis Courts.
Prior to the match, Clark honored one senior and three graduate students, (not all of whom could be at the match in person). The four have contributed 21 wins, and NEWMAC Quarterfinals Appearances in 2018 and 2019. The players honored were graduate students Josh Podolsky, Duncan Drapeau, Holden Moore, and senior Max Schweitzer.
Doubles
• NCJU opened with a clean victory at No. 3 doubles over Podolsky and first-year Adrian Ramirez.
• No. 1 doubles saw Clark's pairing of junior Sam Pomann and sophomore Tanner Honnef hang with the Gothic Knights before losing 8-3.
• First-years Ryan Hovey and Aidan Hurtado had the most success at No. 2 doubles. Despite losing 8-5, the pair fought hard, with several highlight-reel winners and long exchanges from both the baseline and net.
Singles
• The Gothic Knights won at No. 5, 6, and 1 singles. Ramirez, junior Joshua Ofosu-Amoani, and Hovey played for Clark.
• Podolsky lost 6-1, 6-1 for the Cougars in his final career home match.
• Pomann and Hurtado had competitive matches at No. 2 and 3 singles. While neither took sets, both engaged in long rallies and never let their matches get out of hand.
What's Next
Clark concludes their regular season on Sunday with a NEWMAC match against Emerson. That match takes place at noon from the St. John's Prep Tennis Courts in Danvers, Mass.
