Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team's (14-11) offense exploded for 17 runs in a 17-6 victory over Nichols (11-15-1) on Thursday afternoon from the Nichols Baseball Field.
How it Happened
- First-year CJ Johnson gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run homer to left field that also scored fellow first-year Carter Doran.
- Junior Casey Gorczyca took the mound for Clark and got out of a bases loaded jam to end the first after the Bison had scored two runs to tie the game at 2-2.
- Sophomore Ryan Lavelle drove in a run with a single to center field and a two-RBI double from junior Ryan Caulfield extended the lead to 5-2 in the top of the second.
- Johnson drove in the Cougars fourth run of the inning with a single through the left side and Johnson came around to score as Clark held a 7-2 lead after the top of the second.
- First-year Tyler Jones hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the third to push the led to 8-2 and Nichols added a run in the bottom half to make it 8-3.
- Junior Anthony Keefe hit an RBI groundout in the top of the fourth to give Clark a 9-3 advantage and Nichols scored three runs in the bottom of the inning in a 9-6 game.
- Clark's offense added two more runs in the top of the fifth when Caulfield hit a two-RBI single through the left side to push the lead to 11-6 and sophomore Cory Giannelli threw a scoreless fifth inning.
- Keefe scored in the top of the sixth off a wild pitch and junior Michael Carterud pitched another scoreless inning.
- Sophomore Samuel Farrell and Keefe combined for three RBI's in the top of the seventh led by an RBI hit by pitch and a single to left center as Clark led 15-6.
- Farrell belted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth for the Cougars final two runs of the game.
