Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team's (14-14, 3-10 NEWMAC) welcomed Springfield (17-16, 9-4 NEWMAC) to Granger Field and dropped a conference doubleheader to the Pride on Saturday afternoon.
Game One: Springfield 4, Clark 0
- Junior Benjamin Spencer took the mound for the Cougars in game one and pitched a scoreless first inning before first-year Carter Doran reached first on a hit by pitch, but didn't score in what was still a 0-0 game.
- Spencer continued to shut the Pride out in the second and third, and in the bottom of the third, Clark had runners on first and second, but neither scored.
- The Pride plated three runs in the top of the fifth to break the scoreless tie and added another run in the top of the sixth to take a 4-0 advantage.
- Sophomore Billy Sullivan singled to right field and stole second in the bottom of the seventh and Clark was unable to record another hit as they fell 4-0 in game one.
How it Happened: Springfield 11, Clark 8
- After Springfield scored two runs in the top of the first, Clark responded with two runs of their own as sophomore Samuel Farrell and junior Connor Rulnick scored to tie the game at 2-2.
- After sophomore Maxwell Gitlin threw a scoreless second inning, Sullivan scored on a wild pitch and junior Ryan Caulfield drove in a run to give the Cougars a 4-2 lead.
- The Pride tied the game in the top of the third, but again Clark answered with three runs as Sullivan hit an RBI triple to right center, sophomore Anthony LoCasto and Caulfield both also drove in runs to give the Cougars a 7-4 edge.
- Graduate student Torsten Sloan Anderson came in as a reliever in the top of the fourth and pitched a scoreless fourth inning.
- Caulfield drove in another run in the bottom of the fifth with a ball hit to short and first-year Tyler Jones as well as LoCasto came around to score as Clark led 9-5.
- Sloan Anderson dealt two more scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, but the Pride scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to come away with an 11-9 victory.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday when they welcome Babson to Granger for a conference game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
