NORTON, Mass.- No. 5 seed Clark (4-11, 2-4 NEWMAC) was defeated 5-0 in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals by No. 4 seed Wheaton (6-10, 3-3 NEWMAC). Despite close matches at No. 1 and 2 doubles, the Lyons were simply too tough a foe for the Cougars. While the season may have concluded, Clark can be proud of their third NEWMAC playoff appearance in the past five years.
Doubles
• The Lyons picked up their first point of the day at No. 3 doubles. Graduate student Holden Moore and first-year Adrian Ramirez played for Clark.
• At No. 1 doubles junior Dariy Vykhodtsev and sophomore Tanner Honnef were down 3-0 before they regained momentum, trading games with high-level points all the way through. Despite losing 8-6, the duo showed notable improvement from their previous regular-season match against Wheaton.
• Playing for the first time together senior Max Schweitzer and first-year Aidan Hurtado also took part in a barn-burner at No. 2. After being down an early break the duo even the score at 5-5, and fought on each and every part, narrowly losing 8-6 in the end.
Singles
• The Lyons pushed their lead to 4-0 with a win over Vykhodtsev at No. 1 singles.
• The match concluded with a straight-sets win for Wheaton at No. 2 singles over Schweitzer.
• Hurtado and Ramirez were each down sets at No. 4 and 6 singles when the match ended, while Honnef was down 6-3, 3-3 in a close second set.
• Graduate student Josh Podolsky had the most success for the scarlet and white at No. 5 singles. After winning a 6-2 first set with his patient play the grad had a match point at 5-2, but couldn't convert. The score was 6-2, 5-4 in favor of Podolsky when the match came to an end.
