WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce the inductees of the 16th Hall of Fame class. The committee is extremely proud of this year's group of outstanding individuals: Marissa Garrity '00 (Women's Basketball, Softball), Sarah Gianfriddo '97 (Women's Soccer), Aimee Lee '02 (Softball), Edward Trachtenberg (1927-2013, Men's Tennis Coach), Diana Wong Slusarczyk '85 (Volleyball, Softball). These five individuals will officially be inducted into the Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
Garrity was a four-year member of the women's basketball and softball team and graduated from Clark in 2000. As a senior, she was named the NEWMAC Player of the Year in 2000, a member of the Second Team All-America in 2000, and ECAC Player of the Year in 2000. Garrity currently ranks fourth all-time in points scored (1,607), third in steals (228), sixth in field goals made (615), seventh in career three-pointers (121), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (31.6), and eighth in rebounds (705). She also was named the Hughes Trophy winner in 2000 and helped guide Clark to three NCAA Tournament appearances, three NEWMAC Tournament Championships, and an overall record of 84-30. Garrity was a three-time All-NEWMAC selection, started all 114 career games, and helped Clark reach the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament as a senior.
Gianfriddo was a four-year member of the women's soccer team and graduated from Clark in 1997. She was a four-year starter for the Cougars backline and finished her career with 10 goals and nine assists, which was good for 29 career points. Gianfriddo appeared in 69 games during her career and helped guide the women's soccer team to 38 wins in her four years, including 12 and 11 wins respectively in her junior and senior seasons. Gianfriddo was named to the NEW 8 All-Conference Team in 1995 and 1996, earned a spot on the Regional All-America First Team (1996) and the All-America Second Team (1995), was listed on the All-New England First Team (1996) and the All-New England Second Team (1995), and was named NEW 8 Conference Player of the Year (1995).
Lee was a four-year member of the softball team and graduated from Clark in 2002. She finished her career as Clark's all-time leader as a batter in hits (229), at-bats (524), doubles (42), home runs (27), RBI's (183), total bases (366) and as a pitcher, she leads the program in career shutouts (18), strikeouts (447), no-hitters (3), while finishing second all-time with a 1.27 career ERA. She helped guide Clark to a 107-44 record over her four years, a third-place finish in the NCAA Tournament New England Regional, an ECAC Tournament Final, an ECAC Semifinal appearance, and two NEWMAC Semifinal appearances, Lee also earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year, was a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference player, a four-time NFCA Regional All-American, a four-time NEISCA All-New England player, a four-time ECAC All-New England player, and reached the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team in 1999.
Trachtenberg, who passed away in 2013, served as Clark's men's tennis coach from 1972-81 and was a professor at the University for 39 years. As a coach, he compiled an impressive 129-29 (.812) record and led the Cougars to an ECAC Championship in 1980. He was also an essential person in helping and designing the six hard tennis courts and was a leader in insisting that qualified women should be allowed to play on the men's team. Trachtenberg was also a New England Intercollegiate Tennis Association (NEITA) member from 1972-81, the President of the NEITA from 1979-81, the chairman of the ECAC Division II Tennis Tournament Commission from 1979-80, and an NCAA Division III New England Tournament Commission Chairman and Regional representative in 1981.
Wong Slusarczyk was a four-year member of the volleyball and a two-year member of the softball team and graduated from Clark in the class of 1985. She finished her career by appearing in 141 of 142 career volleyball matches and was a captain for the 1985 season as well as the team's setter. Wong was an integral part of the Cougars success over that time as she helped lead the team to two MAIAW Championships and make its first appearance in the ECAC Tournament, in which the team finished second. She was the first athlete (male or female) to reach the 100-win milestone. Clark won 104 career games in Wong's time with the volleyball program. As a senior, she was recognized MAIAW All-Star and was the first recipient of Clark's Senior Class Award. Wong also competed in Bermuda against the Bermuda National Team.
The 2022 Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place in Tilton Hall on the campus of Clark University.
