WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce the inductees of the 17th Hall of Fame class. The six outstanding individuals who will be inducted into the 2024 Hall of Fame include
Katie Brothers '02, Lynne Casey De Leon '02, George Higginbottom '30 (deceased), Gregory K. Marcotte '95, John Toto '99, and Patrick Oroszko '03 (deceased). These individuals will officially be inducted into the Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
Brothers was a four-year member of the women's soccer team and graduated from Clark in 2002. She was an essential piece of the Cougars attack as Brothers holds the program record in points (105) and assists (39). The forward also ranks third in program history with 33 career goals. Brothers was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference all four years and also earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year during the 1998 season. Other accolades while wearing the scarlet and white include NSCAA All-Region (1998, 1999, 2000) and NEWISA All-New England (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001). Brothers was a part of the 1998 team that went undefeated and reached the NCAA Tournament.
Casey was a four-year member of both the field hockey and softball programs, graduating from Clark in 2002. As a field hockey player, she was the focal point of the offense and is currently the all-time leader in assists with 36. Casey also ranks fourth all-time in points in her career with 120 points and also scored 42 career goals. In field hockey, Casey was a First Team All-American (2001), four-time All-Region member (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001), and a four-time All-NEWMAC performer. She helped the team reach a NEWMAC Championship and an ECAC Final. In softball, Casey is the all-time leader in runs scored (174) and stolen bases (44). Casey was an All-NEWMAC performer (2000), four-time All-Region member, three-time All-New England member, and two-time ECAC performer. The Cougars reached the NCAA Tournament and the ECAC Finals.
Higginbottom, who passed away in 1977, was a four-year member of the baseball and men's soccer team and also a three-year member of the men's basketball team. He was a 1930 graduate of Clark and a captain of both the baseball and soccer teams. Higginbottom was a chemistry major, member of the physics club, rope pull captain, the Clark Chemical Society, vice president for two years, class president for two years, and one of two brothers to attend Clark. Higginbottom was the focal point of the Cougars soccer offensive attack.
Marcotte was a four-year member of the men's cross country and track and field programs, graduating from Clark in 1995. He was one of the top runners on the team all four years as well as in program history and was a three-year captain for the cross country team. Marcotte earned the Worcester City Championship in 1993 and 1994 after being the runner-up in 1992. In 1995, Marcotte earned the Fred Hebert Award, which is presented to the senior or graduate male who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance have enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics. Marcotte also earned a victory in the Central Massachusetts Health 5k Road Race in 1995.
Toto was a four-year member of the men's lacrosse program, graduating in 1999. He earned NEWMAC Player of the Year during the 1999 campaign after recording at the time the most points in a season in program history with 58 goals and 11 assists, which was good for 69 points. Toto at the time of graduation led the program in points in a career with 151 (121 goals, 30 assists), goals in a career (121), and points in a season (69). He currently sits seventh all-time in points, third in career goals, and second in points in a season. Toto's 58 goals during the 1999 campaign still sits as the most in program history and earned a spot on the National East/West All-Star Team as well as the All-Region Team. Toto also served as an assistant on the men's lacrosse staff from 2003-06.
Oroszko was a four-year member of the men's basketball program, graduating from Clark in 2003. He was a starter on a pair of Clark men's basketball Elite Eight teams and helped the Cougars earn an 88-19 record over his four seasons. Oroszko was a two-year captain and provided leadership across his 107 career games played. During the 1999-2000 season, Oroszko was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and helped the team earn a trip to the NEWMAC Championship and the ECAC Tournament. Oroszko and the Cougars won the NEWMAC Championship in the 2000-01 season and reached the Elite Eight after wins over Amherst and Merchant Marine. Clark reached the NCAA Tournament again in the 2001-02 campaign and earned a spot in the Elite Eight after victories against Suffolk, Staten Island, and Catholic. Oroszko and the Cougars recorded another NEWMAC Championship in the 2002-03 season and reached another NCAA Tournament. Oroszko, who passed away in 2016, also was a member of the Clark coaching staff after graduation and served as Director of Graduate Student Admissions.
The 2024 Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony will be held on May 16, 2024, in Tilton Hall, at 6:00 p.m. Registration for the event will open in late March.
