WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (0-1) dropped their season opener to Simmons (1-0) by a 7-3 margin on Thursday night from Granger Field.  

How it Happened

• Graduate student Erin Hynes nearly got the Cougars on the board in the 5th minute of the game, but the Sharks goalie registered a save on the shot.
• After Simmons took a 1-0 lead, first-year Ciaran Cubbage fired two shots on target that were saved and first-year Loren Root stopped a pair of shots in goal.
• Junior Greer McCarty scored Clark's first goal of the year in the 11th minute with a shot that beat the goalkeeper to the left to tie the game at 1-1.
• Senior Maggie Herlihy then gave the Cougars the lead early in the second quarter on a play that started with a service in from junior Abbe Cravinho, and Herlihy put it in the back of the net. 
• The Sharks answered with two goals of their own and McCarty nearly scored her third goal of the game in the 30th minute, but had her shot saved as Simmons led 3-2 at the break.
• Cubbage fired two more shots on goal early in the second half that were saved before Simmons added a fourth goal to take a 4-2 edge into the fourth.
• Senior Abbe Cravinho brought Clark back within one in the 47th minute with a shot off a pass from junior Rachael Romain.
• Cravinho nearly tied the game a minute later, but her shot was saved and the Sharks added three goals later in the period to win 7-3.

• Clark attempted 19 shots in the game, with 11 going on goal.
• McCarty netted her first goal of the season and now has four career goals.
