Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (1-3) earned their first win of 2022 with a thrilling 3-2 win over Salve Regina (1-2) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
Clark's 1991 field hockey team was honored at the half for their contributions to the program and is the only team in program history to reach the NCAA Tournament.
How it Happened
- First-year Loren Root recorded three saves to open the first quarter, but the Seahawks struck first in the seventh minute with a goal from Georgia Costello.
- Junior Greer McCarty and first-year Emma Macintire nearly broke the tie in the first quarter with shots on target that were stopped.
- Graduate student Erin Hynes fired in a shot with 12 seconds left in the first that beat the Seahawks netminder that tied the game at 1-1.
- First-year Ciaran Cubbage sent a shot on goal that was saved, but junior Greer McCarty was there to collect the rebound and put a shot into the goal to give Clark a 2-1 advantage at the half.
- Senior Abbe Cravinho fired two shots on target early in the third quarter that were saved and Hynes added a shot on goal as Clark's offense dominated early in the period.
- Root came up big at the end of the third quarter with two saves as Clark headed to the fourth quarter with a 2-1 lead.
- Sophomore Autumn Golding in the 53rd minute drove through the Salve Regina defense and found Cravinho on the right side of the box and Cravinho scored to give Clark a 3-1 advantage.
- Root came up with a crucial save on Salve Regina's penalty stroke in the 57th minute and the Seahawks scored with 36 seconds left, but the Cougars hung on for a 3-2 victory.
