Box Score WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (2-4, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened up conference play on the road against Wellesley (3-3, 1-0), but fell 5-1 to the Blue from Butler Stadium.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Erin Hynes gave Clark an early 1-0 advantage off a nice feed from senior Abbe Cravinho in the second minute of action.
- First-year Loren Root then saved four Wellesley shots in the first quarter, including one with seven seconds left off a penalty corner as Clark led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Blue scored a pair of goals early in the second quarter and junior Rachael Romain nearly tied the game with a shot in the 25th minute, but Kyra Deehr-Lewis registered a save.
- Wellesley added one more goal before the break on a rebound that Root saved as Clark trailed 3-1 at the half.
- Root registered three saves within the first five minutes of the third quarter and junior Greer McCarty fired a shot on goal in the 43rd minute that was stopped before the Blue pushed their lead to 4-1 late in the third quarter.
- Wellesley added another goal in the fourth quarter and Root recorded two more saves as the Cougars were edged 5-1.

- Hynes' goal was her second of the season and fourth of her career.
- Cravinho's assist was her third this year and eighth of her career.
