Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (3-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Smith (3-5, 1-1 NEWMAC) for a NEWMAC contest on Saturday afternoon from the Smith Turf Field, but fell 3-1 to the Pioneers.
How it Happened
- Senior Abbe Cravinho nearly gave Clark an early lead, but the Pioneers Gwen Tuckett came away with a defensive to keep the score tied at 0-0.
- First-year Loren Root recorded a pair of saves in the first quarter, but the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a shot from Grace Moorehead.
- The Cougars offense applied pressure early in the second quarter as Cravinho and first-year Ciaran Cubbage each fired shots on target that were saved.
- Root registered a save in the 21st minute and first-year Emma Macinitire attempted two penalty corners at the end of the period as Smith still led 1-0 at the half.
- After Root recorded two early saves in the third quarter, Smith netted two goals off shots from Victoria Mellow and Callahan Day as Clark trailed 3-0 after three quarters.
- Graduate student Erin Hynes earned a penalty stroke in the 50th minute and netted a goal to make it a 3-1 game, but the Pioneers came away with a 3-1 win.
