Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark University volleyball team (9-5, 3-1 NEWMAC) played a conference road contest on Tuesday night and fell to Coast Guard (11-4, 2-2 NEWMAC) in straight sets from Roland Gymnasium.
Coast Guard won the first set 25-18, 25-22 in the second set, and 25-21 in the third set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars fell behind 7-5 early in the first set despite two kills from senior Claudia Rivera and the team's traded points as Coast Guard held a 20-13 edge sparked by a pair of kills from junior Sofia Scherrer del Llano.
- Clark and Coast Guard traded points the rest of the set and the Bears won the first set 25-18 and Clark took an early 4-3 lead in the second set led by two more kills from Rivera and a kill from junior Camille Flurry.
- The Bears took a 12-10 advantage despite kills from Scherrer del Llano and Pastor and Clark battled their way back to get within one at 19-18 with two more kills from Pastor.
- The teams traded points which made it a 23-22 second set score, as Scherrer del Llano, junior Sheyenne Williams, and Flurry, but the Bears scored the next two points to win the second set 25-22.
- Coast Guard took an early 8-7 lead in the final set as five different Cougars recorded kills led by two from Sofia Scherrer del Llano.
- Clark tied the set at 14-14 as graduate student Margarita Perez Maza registered two service aces in a row.
- The teams went down to the wire in the third set as Coast Guard held a 22-21 lead, but the Bears scored the next three points as Coast Guard won 25-21.
Inside the Stats
- The Cougars registered 31 kills, dished out 29 assists, and recorded 65 digs.
- Rivera recorded a team-leading nine kills.
- Pastor added eight kills in the contest.
