Field Hockey Falls to Worcester State on Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (0-2) traveled across town to Worcester State (2-0) and battled for 60 minutes with the Lancers, but were edged 2-1 on Saturday afternoon from John F. Coughlin Field.

How it Happened

  • Graduate student Erin Hynes and first-year Alison Kopec each fired shots on goal in the second minute of play as the Cougars applied early pressure on the Lancers defense, but WSU's goalie recorded two saves.
  • First-year Loren Root recorded her first save of the contest in the 15th minute on a shot attempt from the Lancers as the game was tied 0-0 after one quarter of play.
  • Senior Abbe Cravinho opened the second quarter of action with a shot on goal that was stopped and Root recorded a critical save in the 25th minute to keep the game tied.
  • Root recorded two more saves before the break to keep it a scoreless contest at the half.
  • The Lancers took the lead early in the third quarter on a shot from Natalya Morin in the 36th minute.
  • Cravinho nearly tied the game in the 39th minute, but the Lancers came away with a defensive save.
  • The Cougars offense continued to apply pressure late in the third as junior Greer McCarty, Asseng, Cravinho, and junior Rachael Romain each fired shots on target, but the Lancers still held a 1-0 lead going into the fourth.
  • First-year Ciaran Cubbage tied the game in the 54th minute when she beat the goalie after receiving a pass from McCarty in what was now a 1-1 contest.
  • The Lancers retook the lead 30 seconds later with a goal from Molly Cutting and Cravinho nearly tied the game back up in the 56th minute, but WSU recorded another defensive save and came away with a 2-1 win.
