Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark men's basketball team (9-5, 1-2 NEWMAC) played its second straight conference road game on Wednesday night from Brown and Plofker Gymnasium and fell 96-79 to Emerson (8-6, 3-0 NEWMAC).
How it Happened
- The game was tied 9-9 early led by four points from sophomore Isaiah Taylor, a three-pointer from junior Jordan Richard, and a layup from sophomore Kekoa McArdle before a jumper from Taylor gave Clark their first lead at 13-11 with 15:27 to go in the first half.
- Taylor and junior Mikey O'Brien scored the Cougars next four points and a Richard jumper with 12:25 remaining gave Clark a 19-18 lead.
- After Emerson took a 30-23 lead, O'Brien cut the deficit to five, but the Lions the scored nine unanswered points before a three-pointer from graduate student Joel Arteaga made it a 39-28 ballgame.
- Taylor scored Clark's next six points with a pair of three pointers before McArdle converted an and-one and another layup to make it a 52-39 contest with 1:59 remaining.
- First-year Reid Neumann hit a pair of three-pointers before the half and a Richard triple made it a 57-48 game at the half.
- Taylor netted four of Clark's first six points of the second half to keep the Cougars within 11 at 65-54 and a made layup from O'Brien made it a 67-57 game with 16:24 remaining.
- Emerson then went on a 10-2 run with the Clark bucket coming from O'Brien and a made free throw from O'Brien made it a 77-60 contest.
- Sophomore Ian Calabrese helped spark a 7-0 run with a made three-pointer, and the other two buckets from Arteaga and McArdle brought Clark within 13 at 80-67 with 8:58 to go.
- The teams then traded points over the next four minutes with a pair of Taylor free throws making it an 84-70 game and a layup from Taylor with 4:34 remaining made it an 86-74 contest.
- Taylor scored Clark's final five points of the game, but the Cougars fell to the Lions 96-79.
