Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark men's basketball team (9-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) battled with Coast Guard (4-11, 2-2 NEWMAC) for 40 minutes, but were edged 74-68 on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 11-4 lead sparked by three-pointers from first-year Reid Neumann, junior Mikey O'Brien, and junior Jordan Richard and sophomore Kekoa McArdle converted a layup off a feed from Neumann.
- An O'Brien three-pointer and a McArdle layup with 15:08 to go pushed the lead to double-digits at 16-6 and a layup off a pass from sophomore Isaiah Taylor put Clark up 11.
- First-year Nate Edwards-Roseney then hit a corner three off a feed from Taylor with 12:22 remaining in the first half and Neumann connected on a triple with 9:35 to go in the first half as the Cougars held a 26-12 advantage.
- The Bears then went on a 12-4 run despite buckets from Richard and McArdle to get within six at 30-24 and sophomore Ian Calabrese hit a three to give Clark a nine-point edge.
- Coast Guard then ended the half on a 14-3 run to take a 37-33 advantage into the break.
- Out of the half, the Cougars opened the second half on a 6-2 run with baskets from Neumann, McArdle, and Calabrese to tie the game at 39-39.
- Clark then took a four-point lead at 45-41 with three-pointers from Neumann and Richard with 15:28 remaining and the Bears went on an 8-6 run despite buckets from McArdle as the Bears held 53-49 edge with 11:24 remaining.
- The teams then traded baskets over the next four minutes before Neumann connected on a three-pointer with 7:25 to go as Clark trailed 59-57.
- Coast Guard then went on a 10-2 run despite a bucket from O'Brien and another O'Brien layup pulled the Cougars within eight at 69-61 with 4:06 remaining.
- Clark scored the next four points of the game capped by a three-pointer from Neumann with 1:22 to go to make it a 69-65 game, but the Cougars were unable to come back as the scarlet and white fell 74-68.
Inside the Box Score
- The Cougars grabbed 40 rebounds, dished out 19 assists, and forced 17 turnovers.
- Neumann netted a team-high 17 points and hit five three-pointers.
- O'Brien recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while also adding six assists and four steals.
- McArdle was also in double-figures with 14 points and eight rebounds.
