Women's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play With 83-51 Win Over Lesley

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (9-7, 0-1 NEWMAC) closed out non-conference play with a game against Lesley (4-12, 0-1 NECC) and cruised to an 83-51 win on Monday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened

  • Both teams played even basketball over the first six minutes of action as the game was tied at 6-6 with the Clark buckets coming from senior Sarah Zambrano, junior Jacqueline Faulise, and graduate student Cam Richey.
  • The Cougars ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run sparked by a three-pointer from senior Jalin Waters and points from first-year Ashley Leighton and junior Alaina Schatzabel as Clark took a 13-6 lead into the second quarter.
  • Clark opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run led by three points from Schatzabel and Waters as well as a jumper from junior Mariah Harris to give the scarlet and white a 21-8 lead with 7:55 remaining in the second.
  • Harris then hit a three-pointer with 6:17 to go in the second to push the advantage to 15 at 26-11 before first-year Sam Golden scored her first career collegiate bucket with 5:34 remaining in the second as Clark held a 28-14 edge.
  • The Cougars ended the half on an 8-6 run led by points from Zambrano, Richey, Waters, and sophomore Megan Swedberg as Clark held a 36-20 lead at the half.
  • Zambrano scored six of the Cougars first nine points of the third quarter and Faulise hit a three as Clark took a 45-22 advantage to open the third quarter.
  • The Cougars then went on a 10-0 run as Schatzabel netted six of Clark's 10 points during the run to push the lead to 55-22 with 4:57 left in the quarter.
  • Waters added Clark's next five points and Harris netted six points with a pair of three-pointers towards the end of the third quarter to cap off the Cougars highest third quarter scoring output of the year with 35 points as Clark led 71-31 after three.
  • Sophomore Jenna Rosenblum netted her first career points in the fourth quarter while Leighton and Harris added three points in the fourth as Clark won 83-51.

  • Clark grabbed 41 rebounds, dished out 24 assists, and forced 36 turnovers.
  • Schatzabel scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and recorded four steals.
  • Harris registered 14 points and six assists.
  • Waters netted 13 points and hit three three-pointers.
  • Zambrano added 10 points and pulled down six rebounds.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday night when they play their first NEWMAC road contest against Babson beginning at 7:00 p.m.
