NORTON, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (9-11, 0-5 NEWMAC) held a lead at the half against Wheaton (12-8, 2-3 NEWMAC), but the Lyons came back in the second half to win 60-53 on Saturday afternoon from Emerson Gymnasium.

How it Happened

  • After Wheaton took a 9-5 lead, graduate student Cam Richey recorded a steal and took it the other way for a made layup, which was the final bucket of the quarter as they Lyons took a 9-7 lead into the second quarter.
  • Waters scored Clark's first points of the second with a pair of free throws, which helped spark a 10-0 run in which juniors Mariah Harris and Jacqueline Faulise, Zambrano, and Schatzabel each scored to give the Cougars a 19-13 lead with 3:21 remaining in the second.
  • After Wheaton got back within three, Clark ended the half on a 6-0 run led by free throws from Faulise and four points from Richey as the Cougars held a 27-18 lead at the half.
  • Waters hit a triple off a feed from Faulise with 8:07 left in the third to extend the lead to double-digits at 32-21, but the Lyons held Clark to just two points over the next four minutes and got back within five at 34-29 with 3:37 to go in the quarter.
  • Harris hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to seven, but Wheaton took the lead with 0:46 remaining in the third on a made three from Madeline Duwe.
  • Schatzabel responded with a pair of made free throws to give Clark a 40-39 edge heading into the fourth.
  • Another Schatzabel bucket to open the fourth pushed the lead up to three before the Lyons scored the next six points to take a three-point lead of their own.
  • Waters tied the game at 45-45 with a made three off a feed from sophomore Megan Swedberg, but again Wheaton answered with four straight points and a pair of Harris free throws with 2:14 to go made it a 51-48 game.
  • After the Lyons regained a six-point edge, Faulise was fouled shooting a three and made all three free throws to make it a 54-51 contest with 1:44 remaining.
  • On the next defensive possession, Faulise stole the ball and made a layup with 1:28 to go in a 54-53 ballgame, but Regan Keyter hit a three with 0:32 left to go back up four.
