Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (7-6) recorded a thrilling come-from-behind 58-56 non-conference victory over Wheaton (10-4) on Friday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Wheaton jumped out to an early 13-3 lead over the first four minutes of action, but junior Jacqueline Faulise netted five of the contest's next eight points to get Clark back within eight at 16-8 with 5:05 to go in the first.
- Junior Mariah Harris scored the Cougars next four points before senior Julianne Liebow helped Clark score seven unanswered points with a made layup and a three-pointer as Wheaton took a 21-17 lead into the second quarter.
- Sophomore Megan Swedberg scored the first bucket of the second quarter to get the Cougars back within two and a jumper from senior Sarah Zambrano with 6:29 to go in the frame cut the deficit to one at 24-23.
- After Wheaton went on a 10-2 run that saw the Clark bucket come from junior Alaina Schatzabel, the Cougars ended the first half on a 6-0 run with baskets coming from Liebow, Schatzabel, and Faulise as the Lyons held a 34-31 lead at the half.
- Schatzabel scored the first four points of the third quarter with a pair of layups off feeds from senior Jalin Waters and graduate student Cam Richey to give Clark its first lead at 35-34.
- The teams then continued to trade buckets over the next two minutes as the Cougars got points from Faulise and Zambrano and Clark regained a 42-41 advantage with 5:17 left in the third off a made layup from Schatzabel.
- Swedberg hit a layup with 3:03 remaining in the third to keep Clark's lead to 44-43, but the Lyons closed the quarter with the final four points with buckets from Maddie Mueller and Kiki Walters as Wheaton took a 47-44 lead into the fourth.
- On the first possession of the fourth quarter, Liebow connected on a three-pointer off a feed from Faulise to tie the game before Walters from Wheaton hit a three to regain a three-point edge.
- Zambrano then connected on a jumper and a pair of free throws from Schatzabel with 6:28 remaining gave the Cougars a 51-50 lead.
- The teams then traded free throws, but a layup from Greta Minos gave the Lyons a three-point edge at 56-53 with 3:34 to go.
- Both defenses tightened up over the next three minutes as neither team scored a point until Zambrano connected on a layup off a nice feed from Liebow to make it a 56-55 ballgame with 0:42 remaining.
- Clark then got a defensive stop and forced a turnover and out of a timeout, Liebow again found Zambrano cutting to the hoop and Zambrano connected on an and-one layup with 0:13 to go to give Clark a 58-56 lead.
- The Cougars defense forced a missed layup with 0:05 remaining and after Faulise missed a pair of free throws, Clark forced another turnover to come away with a 58-56 victory.

- Clark grabbed 36 rebounds, dished out 16 assists, and forced 23 turnovers.
- Zambrano led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds.
- Schatzabel added 13 points and eight rebounds.
