WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (13-11, 4-5 NEWMAC) welcomed No. 17 MIT (25-3, 8-1 NEWMAC) to the Kneller on Tuesday night and were edged 3-0 by the Engineers.
Clark fell 25-14 in the first set, were edged 25-22 in the second set, and dropped the third set 25-15.
How it Happened
- The Cougars trailed 8-3 early in the first set before junior Camille Sterling recorded a pair of kills to make it a 9-5 game and a kill from senior Victoria Pastor off a feed from junior Yvanna Torres made it a 10-6 contest.
- Over the rest of the set, senior Sofia Scherrer del Llano, first-year Winifred Gakidis, Pastor, and Sterling each recorded kills as the scarlet and white fell 25-14.
- The two teams traded the lead early in the second set before Sterling registered a pair of kills and an MIT attack error put Clark up 9-8.
- Scherrer del Llano recorded a kill from sophomore Yumeng Liu and a Gakidis kill off a feed from first-year Julia Dopazo gave the Cougars a 13-11 edge.
- After MIT regained the lead, Scherrer del Llano added two more kills to help pull Clark within two at 22-20 and two more Scherrer del Llano kills made it a 23-22 contest in the Engineers favor, but MIT scored the final two points of the set as they took the set 25-22.
- Clark took a 6-4 lead early in the third set led by blocks from Gakidis and Pastor as well as a Scherrer del Llano kill before the Engineers scored four unanswered points.
- Down 14-8, Dopazo found Scherrer del Llano to cut the deficit to five and before the end of the match, Pastor added three more kills as the scarlet and white fell 25-15.

- Clark recorded 31 kills, four blocks, 46 digs, and dished out 27 assists.
- Scherrer del Llano led the team with 13 kills.
- Pastor added seven kills.
- Gakidis recorded four blocks.

Clark will return to the court on Saturday with a tri-match at Dean beginning at 11:00 a.m., against the Bulldogs and a 1:00 p.m. match against Mass. Maritime.
