Men's Soccer Closes Out Season With Convincing 2-0 Win Over Emerson

WORCESTER, Mass. - Clark men's soccer (4-9-4, 2-4-2 NEWMAC) ended the 2023 season with a convincing 2-0 win over Emerson (7-7-4, 0-6-2 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Andrew DiStefano recorded the first save of the match in the 10th minute off a shot from Ben Deeming before fellow senior Anyolo Makatiani put a shot on goal that was stopped and the rebound created a chance for first-year Myles Nelson-Atkins, who had his shot saved in the 13th minute.
  • Nelson-Atkins, junior William Lopez, and senior Teddy Donahue each put shots on goal over a five-minute stretch that were all saved as Clark's offense continued to apply pressure to the Lion backline.
  • Makatiani broke the scoreless tie in the 28th minute by running up the left side of the pitch, beating the Emerson defense, and finding the back of the net to go up 1-0.
  • Junior Lucas Saia extended the lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute off a feed from sophomore Mauro Perez Colon.
  • Makatiani nearly added a second goal in the 73rd minute with a shot that was saved as Clark held the Lions without a shot on goal in the second half to come away with a 2-0 victory.
