Men's Swimming and Diving

Feature Friday: Men's Swimming and Diving Senior Alex Bielecki

WORCESTER, Mass. - Alex Bielecki is a senior captain of the Clark University men's swimming and diving team. Bielecki is from Methuen, Massachusetts, where he attended Presentation of Mary Academy. At Clark, Bielecki is studying management with a minor in marketing. During his college search, Bielecki was searching for a smaller school with a great community relatively close to home where he could make a home for himself, leading him to Clark.

Bielecki began swimming at six years old with his family. At first, he was terrified of water. After having a difficult time learning how to overcome his fear, watching his older brother during swim lessons and swim meets inspired Bielecki to persevere. Bielecki describes his brother as his inspiration, following in his footsteps to the collegiate level while Bielecki paves his path at Clark. Bielecki is grateful that he continued swimming, as his progression throughout the years has brought him to where he is today. When training gets tough, Bielecki reflects on how far he has come and relies on his support system to help him push through it.

While discussing the Clark University swimming and diving team, Bielecki described the team as a family, as Coach Phillips emphasizes the significance of the team being a family, giving him "the feeling that you are not only a part of a team, but more importantly, you are part of a family." Coach Phillips refers to the team as "CUSDF," which stands for Clark University Swimming and Diving Family. It appears on their official Instagram account as just one way he identifies the significance of the team's family dynamic. Bielecki states, "When you are together, whether you are at practices, swim meets, doing a lift, being in the multipurpose room doing yoga at seven in the morning, you really do feel as if you are part of a family, you are all together as one."

As he begins his senior season, Bielecki reflects on the abundance of support he receives from teammates, "no matter how good or bad you do after a race, whether you might be having a good day or you might be having a bad day, the team is always going to be there to support you." Bielecki is thankful for the support of his teammates and the coaching staff, "to have a coaching staff, athletic staff, that is always supportive, that's always helpful, I'm glad that I was able to make a home for myself here at Clark." Bielecki is excited for the season and will cherish the memories made at Clark as he looks forward to what the future holds.

Outside of athletics, Bielecki is interested in marketing and entrepreneurship. He is currently exploring MBA opportunities at Clark and Assumption, where he will continue swimming if he pursues a graduate degree. While searching for jobs around Worcester, Bielecki has expressed interest in possibly working at the DCU Center as a marketing consultant.
