Saintilus' 26 Points Helps Guide Men's Basketball Past Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – Clark men's basketball (5-0) traveled to Roger Williams (0-5) for a non-conference contest and came away with a down-to-the-wire 90-86 win on Sunday afternoon from the Campus Recreation Center.

How it Happened
  • Clark opened the game on a 13-4 run as sophomore Reid Neumann and senior Mikey O'Brien each netted five points and junior Bruce Saintilus connected on a three-pointer.
  • The Hawks would take an 18-15 edge in the first half, but junior Ian Calabrese scored four points and a made layup by junior Kekoa McArdle with 9:54 remaining made it a 27-25 game in favor of the home side.
  • The teams then trade buckets over the next two minutes as O'Brien, junior Isaiah Taylor, Saintilus, and sophomore Aedan Derrick all scored as the Hawks still led by two at 41-39.
  • Taylor scored Clark's final five points of the half with a made triple and layup as the Cougars took a 44-43 lead into the half.
  • Neumann opened the second half with a pair of made three-pointers to go up 50-46, but Roger Williams responded with 12 unanswered before Saintilus made a jumper to make it a 58-52 contest.
  • Down 10, Taylor connected on a three-pointer and a converted and-one from Saintilus brought Clark within eight at 66-58 with 13:02 remaining.
  • Roger Williams led 70-62 before Clark netted 13 unanswered points sparked by five points from Saintilus, four from Taylor, and points from both McArdle and senior Jordan Richard as the Cougars held a 75-70 lead with 8:02 to go.
  • First-year Christopher Clarke converted a pair of free throws and a jumper from Taylor gave Clark a 79-72 edge, but the Hawks recorded seven unanswered to tie the game at 79-79.
  • Saintilus made a free throw and a made triple from Neumann helped give Clark an 83-81 lead and after the game was tie, Taylor connected on a made three to give the Cougars an 86-83 advantage.
  • Tied at 86-86, Saintilus connected on four free throws down the stretch as the Cougars held Roger Williams scoreless over the final 1:21 of play to win 90-86.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Cougars grabbed 35 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, forced 12 turnovers, and shot 51.6% from the floor.
  • Saintilus netted a team-leading 26 points, matching his career-high on 8-14 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Taylor added 19 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds.
  • Neumann (14) and McArdle (12) also reached double-figures.
