Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark men's basketball team (12-8, 4-5 NEWMAC) extended their winning streak to two games and ended their three-game road trip with a convincing 79-66 win over Coast Guard (4-16, 2-7 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from Roland Hall.
How it Happened
- Coast Guard jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but junior Mikey O'Brien and sophomore Kekoa McArdle each added layups to get back within one.
- After the Bears led 10-4, Clark went on a 9-0 run sparked by three points each from junior Jordan Richard, junior Bruce Saintilus, and sophomore Ian Calabrese as the Cougars took a 13-10 lead.
- First-year Reid Neumann hit a three with 10:58 to go in the first half to extend the lead to three and a Saintilus layup on the next possession kept it a three-point game.
- Coast Guard then took a 22-18 lead, but sophomore Isaiah Taylor ended the Bears run with a three off a feed from Saintilus to get back within one at 22-21 with 8:10 remaining in the half.
- Clark then went on an 11-3 run over the next four minutes sparked by five points from Richard, and baskets from McArdle, Saintilus, and Taylor as the Cougars held a 32-24 lead.
- O'Brien and Neumann each hit three's before the half and Clark held the Bears scoreless over the final 7:34 of the first half as the Cougars took a 38-24 lead into the half.
- Naumann and McArdle scored the first four points of the second half to extend the advantage to 18 and a three-pointer from Saintilus with 18:23 remaining in the second half pushed the edge to 19.
- After the Bears got back within 13, Taylor hit a pair of free throws and McArdle made a layup off a feed from Calabrese to give Clark a 53-36 lead with 13:49 to go.
- Coast Guard battled back to within 12 before another Saintilus triple extended the lead back up to 15 and an and-one layup from Saintilus with 9:21 remaining gave the Cougars a 64-51 advantage.
- O'Brien, McArdle, Neumann, and Taylor combined to score the game's next nine points as Clark took a 73-51 lead with 6:34 left in the second half.
- Calabrese, Saintilus, and O'Brien scored the Cougars final six points of the game as Clark came away with a 79-66 victory over Coast Guard.
