Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (11-13, 2-7 NEWMAC) hosted its pride game and final home contest of the season on Wednesday night and came away with a convincing 55-33 victory over Wellesley (8-15, 2-7 NEWMAC) from inside the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Clark opened the game with an 11-2 lead, holding the Blue to just two points over the first seven minutes of action, while also getting six points from junior Jacqueline Faulise, three points from junior Alaina Schatzabel, and a layup from senior Sarah Zambrano.
- Junior Mariah Harris scored the Cougars final points of the first with a made layup, but Wellesley ended the quarter on an 8-2 run to make it a 13-10 game heading into the second.
- The two teams traded points to open the second as first-year Ashley Leighton made a free throw and Schatzabel added three more points as Clark led 17-16 before a Harris layup with 2:53 left in the second extended the Cougar lead to 19-16.
- Faulise scored four of Clark's final six of the quarter and held Wellesley to just two points down the stretch as the Cougars took a 25-18 lead into the half.
- Clark opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run sparked by eight points from Schatzabel and a bucket from Faulise as the Cougars extended their advantage to 35-18 with 6:32 remaining in the quarter.
- After Wellesley scored four unanswered, senior Julianne Liebow hit a three-pointer to extend the lead back to 15 and a Schatzabel layup with 3:55 to go in the third pushed the score to 40-23.
- Faulise scored Clark's final points of the third with a layup off a feed from graduate student Julia Beebe as the scarlet and white carried a 42-29 advantage into the fourth.
- After the Blue cut the deficit to 11, Faulise hit a three-pointer with 7:08 to go to push the lead back up to 14 and two more Schatzabel layups gave Clark a 49-31 lead with 5:47 remaining.
- Over the final 5:47, the Cougars held Wellesley to just two points and got six points from Liebow to come away with a 55-33 victory.
