Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (9-6) closed out their six-game homestand with a contest against Lesley (6-8) and came away with a 7-2 win on Tuesday afternoon from Granger Field,
How it Happened
- Junior Heath Cockburn took the bump for Clark and struck out the side in order in the top of the first.
- Senior Anthony Keefe and senior Ryan Caulfield each reached base in the bottom of the first, with Keefe reaching third before the Lynx got out of the jam.
- After another scoreless inning pitched by Cockburn, Clark got on the board in the bottom of the second when junior Anthony LoCasto doubled to left center to plate sophomore Tyler Jones to make it a 1-0 game.
- Cockburn tossed another scoreless and hitless pair of innings before the Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
- Senior Samuel Farrell hit a bases clearing double to left field that plated LoCasto, Jones, and first-year Nicolo Mainardi and Keefe drove in Farrell.
- Caulfield walked and stole a base in the bottom of the fifth and reached third before Lesley was able to get out of the inning.
- Cockburn allowed his first hit of the game in the top of the sixth and forced a groundout to end the inning.
- After Lesley scored two runs in the top of the seventh in which first-year Tommy Flaherty got out of a jam, the Cougars responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Keefe came around to score on a ball hit by first-year Brayden Hollinrake.
- The scarlet and white added to the lead after a scoreless inning from senior Michael Carterud as Farrell belted an RBI double to left field to take a 7-2 lead.
- Senior Jose Mencia came into the game in the top of the ninth and retired the side in order as Clark came away with a 7-2 victory.
Inside the Stats
- Farrell went 2-5 with four RBI's, two doubles, and a run scored.
- Jones was 2-4 with a pair of runs scored.
- LoCasto belted a double, drove in a run, and scored a run.
- Cockburn pitched 6.1 innings, struck out seven batters, and only allowed two runs.
- Flaherty, Carterud, and Mencia each tossed scoreless innings.
