LoCasto Walk Off Pushes Baseball Past Gwynedd Mercy

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Clark University baseball team (3-2) rallied to a 10-9 victory over Gwynedd Mercy (3-3) on Thursday afternoon from Lake Myrtle Park.

How It Happened

  • Junior Andres Hulfachor took the mound for the scarlet and white and retired the side in order in the top of the first before striking out three batters in the top of the second.
  • After a scoreless two innings, Clark got on the board with a sacrifice fly from CJ Johnson that scored sophomore Carter Doran and first-year Brayden Hollinrake drove in a pair of runs with a single to right center as the Cougars took a 3-0 lead.
  • Hulfachor got out of a bases loaded jam with only one out as he got Bailey to pop out and Martell to fly out to center field in the top of the fifth.
  • Gwynedd Mercy added four runs in the top of the sixth, but Clark responded with a pair of runs as Doran and senior Ryan Caulfield each drove in runs to regain a 5-4 edge.
  • After Gwynedd Mercy scored two runs in the top of the seventh, the Cougars again answered with runs scored from graduate student Andrea Casabianca, Hollinrake, and senior Ethan Belt to take an 8-6 lead.
  • Hollinrake added to the lead in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single that plated Caulfield to make it a 9-6 game.
  • Gwynedd Mercy tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with three runs scored and junior Heath Cockburn set the Griffins down in order in the top of the 10th.
  • Junior Anthony LoCasto walked it off in the bottom of the 10th as he drove in sophomore Tyler Jones to give Clark a 10-9 win.

Inside the Stats

  • Hollinrake went 4-4 with three RBI's and a run scored.
  • Doran was 3-4 with a pair of RBI's and two runs scored.
  • Caulfield and Sullivan each recorded two hits.
  • Hulfachor pitched 5.0 innings, struck out five batters, and only allowed one run.
  • Cockburn earned the win with 1.2 innings pitched and no allowed runs.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow with a game against Gordon beginning at 12:30 p.m.
