Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (13-11) traveled across town for an early week contest against Worcester State (9-12) and battled for nine innings before falling 9-8 to the Lancers from Kevin D. Lyons Diamond on Monday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Clark opened the game with a pair of runs scored to take a 2-0 lead as senior Ryan Caulfield scored and senior Connor Rulnick scored on a sacrifice fly from first-year Brayden Hollinrake.
- The Lancers answered back with a run in the bottom of the first, but Clark answered with a run in the third as sophomore CJ Johnson singled to drive in sophomore Carter Doran to take a 3-1 lead.
- Worcester State plated three runs between the third and fourth to take a 4-3 edge, but again the Cougars regained the lead as Hollinrake hit his second sacrifice fly of the game that plated Rulnick and graduate student Steven Mooney singled to drive in Doran and take a 5-4 lead.
- The Lancers plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth and after a scoreless seventh, Clark responded with two runs off RBI's from first-year Dom Mariani and Caulfield to make it an 8-7 contest.
- In the top of the ninth, Johnson singled to drive in Doran to tie the game at 8-8, but in the bottom of the ninth the Lancers scored to win the game 9-8.

- Doran went 2-3 with three runs scored, a stolen base, and a double.
- Johnson and Hollinrake each recorded two RBI's.
- Belt was 3-4 with a double and a run scored.
