Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark University baseball team (13-14, 4-3 NEWMAC) traveled to Coast Guard (10-12, 3-4 NEWMAC) for the first of a three-game weekend series and were edged by the Bears 6-3 on Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
- After Coast Guard jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Cougars responded with two runs in the top of the second as graduate student Andrea Casabianca doubled to left center to score sophomore Carter Doran and junior Anthony LoCasto plated Casabianca to tie the game at 2-2.
- Junior Heath Cockburn tossed a scoreless second, third, and fourth inning before the Bears added three runs in the bottom of the fifth when they hit a three-run homer to make it 5-2.
- Senior Ryan Caulfield got Clark back within two at 5-3 in the top of the sixth when he singled to center field, scoring sophomore Tyler Jones.
- With the Bears holding a 6-3 lead in the top of the eighth, senior Anthony Keefe doubled to right field and reached third on a passed ball, but Coast Guard got out of the jam.

- Caulfield, Casabianca, and LoCasto each drove in runs.
- Senior Michael Carterud tossed 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out three batters.

The Cougars will return to action on Saturday with a NEWMAC doubleheader against Coast Guard for their senior day game beginning at 11:00 a.m.
