Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (4-8, 1-5 NEWMAC) earned their first conference victory of the year on Saturday night with a 16-13 win over Emerson (3-10, 1-5 NEWMAC) on Saturday night from Granger Field.
Prior to the game, seniors Jill Cass, Sophie Didier, Rachel Quinn, Elizabeth Liakos, Kiley Simmons, and Maddie Conners were recognized for their contributions to women's lacrosse.
How it Happened
- Clark jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as junior Angela Borelli and Didier both scored, with the Didier goal coming off a feed from Simmons with 11:38 to go in the first.
- Sophomore Aubrey Conners responded with another goal off a free position shot and before the end of the quarter, both Didier and Liakos netted goals as the Cougars held Emerson scoreless through one quarter of play and held a 5-0 lead.
- Clark added two more goals to open the second as sophomore Meghan Fogarty and junior Greer McCarty found the back of the net to push the lead to 7-0 after Maddie Conners recorded four saves in the first quarter.
- After a pair of goals from the Lions, Clark responded with three goals coming from sophomore Erin Lucas, Aubrey Conners, and Simmons to extend the advantage to 10-2.
- Emerson scored before the half, but the Cougars opened the third with three unanswered goals, including a man-down goal from Didier as well as goals from Fogarty and Liakos to make it 13-3 with 11:19 to go in the third.
- After five straight Emerson goals, McCarty found the back of the net off a feed from Didier to give Clark a 14-8 lead entering the fourth.
- The Lions got as close as three before Clark pushed the lead back to five as Liakos and Aubrey Conners each scored to take a 16-11 edge.
- Maddie Conners stopped a free position shot down the stretch before Emerson added two more goals, but the Cougars came away with an 16-13 victory.
