Women's Lacrosse Ends Season With 16-11 Win Over Mount Holyoke

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (5-10, 2-7 NEWMAC) closed out their season with a convincing 16-11 victory over Mount Holyoke (3-12, 0-9 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from Granger Field.

How it Happened

  • Sophomore Meghan Fogarty gave Clark an early 1-0 lead with a goal less than a minute into play and first-year Victoria Holden registered a save on the ensuing Mount Holyoke possession.
  • Senior Kiley Simmons extended the lead to 2-0 with 13:39 to go in the first off a feed from sophomore Erin Lucas.
  • Senior Elizabeth Liakos pushed the edge to 3-0 less than four minutes later off a pass from fellow senior Sophie Didier.
  • Simmons had a pair of shots saved and Didier put one on target before the Lyons ended the quarter with a pair of goals to make it a 3-2 contest.
  • Simmons and sophomore Aubrey Conners scored to open the second quarter as the Cougars pushed their lead to three goals at 5-2.
  • Holden recorded a pair of saves over the next few minutes and a free position goal from first-year Fionnuala Gormley to take a 6-4 edge.
  • Gormley and Liakos each scored before the half as Clark took an 8-5 lead into the half.
  • The Lyons scored a pair of early goals in the third quarter to get within one before Liakos netted a man-up goal and junior Greer McCarty scored to make it 10-7 with 8:13 to go.
  • Sophomore Annie Battle recorded a save on a free position attempt before Fogarty and Simmons each scored to make it a 12-8 contest.
  • Liakos added a free position goal before the end of the third as the Cougars took a 13-8 lead into the fourth.
  • Fogarty netted the first goal in the fourth to make it 14-8 and Simmons added a man-down goal with 10:01 to go to make it 15-9.
  • The Lyons cut it to 15-11 before Liakos added her fifth goal of the game as Clark came away with a 16-11 victory.
