Box Score STANDISH, Me. – The Clark University baseball team (11-10) traveled to Maine for a non-conference game against St. Joe's (Me.) (9-11) on Friday afternoon and fell 8-7 to the Monks from Mahaney Diamond.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Carter Doran gave Clark an early 1-0 lead with a single through the right side and later came around to score made it a 2-0 contest.
- First-year Tommy Flaherty took the bump for Clark and retired the side in order in both the first and the second inning.
- After the Monks scored a run in the third, the Cougars added three runs in the top of the fourth as sophomore Sean Borden and junior Anthony LoCasto scored off an error and sophomore Tyler Jones scored on a passed ball to give Clark a 5-1 edge.
- St. Joe's got back within three in the bottom of the fifth as the Monks scored on a passed ball and first-year Dom Mariani doubled to right field that plated Borden to take a 6-2 lead.
- The Monks hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth and in the bottom of the seventh played another run to tie the game at 6-6.
- Mariani doubled to right field, but was unable to score and the Monks played a run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-6 lead.
- LoCasto plated a double down the right field line in the top of the ninth to score junior Billy Sullivan, but in the bottom of the ninth, St. Joe's was able to score to earn an 8-7 win.
Inside the Stats
- Mariani went 2-3 with a pair of doubles, a stolen base, and an RBI.
- Donahue recorded a pair of hits.
- Doran and LoCasto each drove in and scored a run.
- Flaherty tossed five innings, struck out three batters, and didn't allow any earned runs.
