WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (7-2) went five sets against Brandeis (5-2), but fell 3-2 to the Judges on Thursday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.
Clark took the first set 25-22, won the second set 25-18, fell 25-23 in the third set, dropped the fourth set 25-12, and were edged 15-7 in the fifth set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars opened the match with a 4-2 lead sparked by kills from senior Sofia Scherrer de Llano, graduate student Cameron Gill and Senior Sheyenne Williams.
- After Brandeis took a 10-8 lead, Clark scored four unanswered points led by kills from junior Camile Sterling, senior Victoria Pastor, and Scherrer de Llano to take a 12-8 edge in the first set.
- With the match tied at 13-13, Clark recorded six of the next seven points, which was capped off by a kill from senior Camille Flurry to go up 19-14.
- The Cougars ended the set with six points, including a service ace from graduate student Cameron Gill and a pair of kills from Scherrer del Llano as Clark took the set 25-22.
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the second set as Williams and Pastor recorded kills and a later Scherrer del Llano kill pushed the edge to 10-6.
- Flurry, Pastor, Sterling and Williams each recorded kills over Clark's next 11 points to take a 21-14 lead, which also included a Pastor service ace.
- Pastor ended the set with a kill off a feed from junior Yvanna Torres to take the set 25-18.
- The Judges took a 9-7 edge in the third set and Clark responded with five unanswered points, including kills from Flurry and Pastor as well as a Gill service ace to go up 12-9.
- A kill from Gill extended the lead to 16-12, but the Judges scored five straight points and a Williams kill off a pass from first-year Julia Dopazo to tie the set at 17-17.
- Pastor registered a pair of kills later in the set to tie the match at 23-23, but Brandeis ended the set with the final two points to win 25-23.
- Clark and Brandeis changed leads four times early in the fourth set with a Scherrer del Llano kill to tie the set at 7-7, but the Judges then went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-7 lead before Clark responded with kills from Pastor, Williams, and Gill.
- Brandeis took the fourth set 25-12 and in the final set, sophomore Yumeng Liu and Williams each registered kills as the Judges jumped out to a 4-2 lead.
- Flurry recorded two kills and a Gill kill tied the set at 5-5, but again Brandeis answered with four points before Flurry added another kill.
- Torres found Flurry for Clark's final point as Brandeis came away with a 15-7 win in the deciding set.
