Samuel Nets Two Goals to Lead Women's Soccer Past Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's soccer team (3-0-0) extended their winning streak to three games led by a pair of second half goals as the Cougars came away with a 2-0 victory over Worcester State (0-1-1) on Wednesday night from Granger Field.  

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Cassidy Hubbard recorded the first shot of the match in the third minute with a header that went just wide off a service in from junior Andrea Mortimer.
  • Graduate student Siobhan Lounsbury put a shot on target in the 15th minute that was stopped by Ella Gumienny and right before the half, sophomore Jayme Brown put a shot on goal that was saved as both defenses dominated the first half in a tied 0-0 contest.
  • Junior Anabella White recorded her first save of the match in the 48th minute off a shot from Ava Lemanski and in the 50th minute, sophomore Gabriella Herivaux put a shot on target that was saved.
  • Clark broke through in the 52nd minute when graduate student Jamie Stern threw the ball into junior Ashlee Samuel, and Samuel buried a right-footed shot over the keeper's head to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Lounsbury fired another shot on target in the 53rd minute that was saved and Mortimer put a shot on goal that was stopped in the 59th minute.
  • First-year Ainsley Golinini fired a shot on goal that was saved in the 73rd minute and in the 75th minute, Mortimer serviced in a free kick that found Samuel, and Samuel netted her second goal of the match as Clark led 2-0.
  • Graduate student Emma Tziachris created a chance in the 80th minute that was stopped and White recorded a save in the 90th minute as the Cougars came away with a 2-0 victory.

  • Clark attempted 19 shots in the match, with nine going on target.
  • Samuel's two goals went down as her second and third of her career.
  • Stern recorded her third assist of the year and fifth as a Cougar.
  • Mortimer's assist was her first of the season and sixth of her career.
