Women's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play With 85-51 Win Over Lesley

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (11-4, 1-0 NEWMAC) wrapped up non-conference play with a convincing 85-51 victory over Lesley (0-14) on Tuesday afternoon from Medford High School.

How it Happened
  • Clark jumped out to an early 10-4 lead as senior Jacqueline Faulise netted five points and first-year Kailey Rios and senior Alaina Schatzabel each scored before a jumper from senior Alexis Ross gave the Cougars a 12-6 edge with 4:27 to go in the first quarter.
  • Sophomore Ashley Leighton scored five of Clark's final seven points of the first quarter as the scarlet and white held a 19-8 lead after one quarter of action.
  • Rios hit a three-pointer to open the second to push the edge to 22-10 before a layup from Schatzabel gave the Cougars a 24-10 lead and after the Lynx cut the deficit to eight, Leighton extended the lead back to double-digits at 28-18 with 3:58 remaining in the second quarter.
  • First-year Catherine Antwi paced the Cougars with seven points down the stretch and five points from junior Kumi Tamura helped Clark take a 42-18 lead into the half.
  • Clark netted seven unanswered to open the third quarter as first-year Emma Drefs connected on a triple and Faulise added four more points to extend the advantage to 49-18 and a Rios triple with 6:45 to go in the third pushed the lead to 55-21.
  • Antwi led the way with three points for the remainder of the third while first-years Bella Galatt and Amarna Windross also scored as the Cougars possessed a 62-40 lead after three quarters of play.
  • In the fourth quarter, Tamura netted seven points, while Antwi, Ross, and Galatt all added four as well as buckets from Leighton and graduate student Simone Fiore as the scarlet and white came away with a convincing 85-51 victory.

  • Clark grabbed 53 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, registered 17 steals, and forced 25 turnovers.
  • Antwi led the way with 16 points and four steals.
  • Tamura also reached double-figures with 12 points and hit three three-pointers.

  • Windross led the team with 14 rebounds.
