Five in Double-Figures as Men's Basketball Falls 71-68 to Babson

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark men's basketball (15-5, 9-2 NEWMAC) welcomed Babson (9-11, 5-6 NEWMAC) to the Kneller in their final game of the season series and the Beavers came away with a 71-68 road win on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Both teams traded leads early in a 7-7 tie as senior Mikey O'Brien hit a three-pointer and the Cougars also got baskets from juniors Isaiah Taylor and Kekoa McArdle before a layup from junior Bruce Saintilus gave Clark a 9-8 advantage with 14:27 remaining in the first half.
  • The lead continued to change over the next four minutes with a three-pointer from sophomore Reid Neumann giving the Cougars a 16-15 edge and a Taylor layup tied the contest at 18-18 with 9:18 to play in the half.
  • Babson then went on an 8-1 run before another Neumann triple cut the Cougar deficit to four at 26-22 and a Neumann layup with 4:48 to go in the half made it a 28-26 ballgame in favor of the visitors.
  • Saintilus and McArdle combined to score Clark's final six points of the first half as the Cougars held Babson to just three points down the stretch as the scarlet and white took a 32-31 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Beavers scored the first nine points of the second half to take a 40-32 lead before Saintilus and Neumann netted the next five points to make it a 40-37 contest with 16:31 to play.
  • McArdle then made a pair of layups, but the Beavers pushed the lead to nine before senior Jordan Richard connected on a triple off a feed from O'Brien as Clark trailed 52-44.
  • Babson went up by as many as 16 at 62-46 with 8:51 to play, but Clark marched back as Taylor scored four points and a pair of Saintlus free throws with 7:03 to go cut the deficit to 10 at 62-52.
  • Down by 13, the Cougars scored nine unanswered sparked by four points from Saintilus, a Neumann triple, and an O'Brien layup made it a 66-62 contest with 3:13 to play.
  • Babson scored four straight points to go up 70-62 before Taylor hit a triple and made a pair of free throws to get it back to a one possession game at 70-67 with 0:41 remaining.
  • After a pair of missed free throws, Taylor was fouled and made the first free throw to make it a 70-68 game with 0:04 to go and after Babson made one free throw to go up three, Neumann got a look from the left corner before the buzzer that went just over the rim as the Beavers won 71-68.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Cougars grabbed 35 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, and recorded six steals.
  • Taylor registered 15 points and dished out a team-leading seven assists.
  • Saintilus also scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Neumann added 14 points and connected on four three-pointers.
  • McArdle recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • O'Brien also reached double-figures with 10 points and added six rebounds.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will be back in action on Wednesday night for a road contest against Coast Guard beginning at 5:30 p.m.
