Men's Basketball Remains Unblemished in NEWMAC Play With 89-83 Win Against Emerson

Boston, Mass. - The Clark University men's basketball team (11-3, 5-0 NEWMAC) netted 54 points in the second half as they registered a come-from-behind 89-83 win over Emerson (4-9, 0-4 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night from the Brown and Plofker Gymnasium.

How it Happened

  • ? The two teams played to an early 8-8 tie in the first five minutes as junior Kekoa McArdle added four points while fellow juniors Isaiah Taylor and Bruce Saintilus each scored. 
  • ? The Lions responded with a 10-5 run despite four points from Saintilus and a made free throw from junior Ian Calabrese before a three-pointer from first-year Christopher Clarke cut the deficit to five at 21-16 with 8:55 remaining in the first half.
  • ? McArdle scored Cougars next 10 points as Clark pulled within two at 28-26, but the Lions netted the contest's next five points to push their edge to seven.
  • ? Four free throws from Saintilus helped Clark get back within three at 33-30, but Emerson responded with eight unanswered points to go up 41-30 with 1:57 left in the half. 
  • ? Calabrese connected on a triple and a layup from first-year Quentin Pridgen helped cut the deficit to six at 41-35 at the break.
  • ? Senior Mikey O'Brien and Taylor scored the first four points of the second half, but the Lions were able to extend their lead to nine at 50-41 off a made triple from Trevor Arico.
  • ? Senior Jordan Richard hit a three-pointer and layups from both Clarke and Taylor cut the deficit to five at 59-54 with 11:21 remaining in the second half.
  • ? Pridgen scored five unanswered points to tie the game at 59-59 before Emerson scored five straight points to push the edge to five.
  • ? Taylor scored Clark's next 15 points with a pair of three-pointers, five free throws, and two buckets as the Cougars went on a 15-11 run as the scarlet and white held a 74-70 lead with 3:15 remaining.
  • ? Up by one, Richard connected on another triple to give Clark a 77-73 edge with 2:41 to go and the Cougars held the Lions scoreless for the next minute as a pair of Taylor free throws pushed the edge to 79-73.
  • ? Taylor hit four free throws down the stretch as Clark led by as many as eight before the Lions cut the deficit to two at 85-83 with 0:13 to go.
  • ? Saintilus hit a pair of free throws and a dunk from Pridgen helped propel Clark to an 89-83 win.
