Field Hockey Falls to Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (5-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) traveled to Wheaton (8-5, 2-4 NEWMAC) for their second NEWMAC game of the week and dropped the contest 4-1 to the Lyons on Saturday afternoon from Nordin Field in their Play 4 the Cure Game.

How it Happened
  • Junior Jenna Beauchain took a penalty corner for Clark early in the first quarter and passed to fellow junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia, with Cacciapaglia sending the ball just wide of the goal.
  • Junior Rachel Reiter registered three saves in the middle of the quarter before Kayla Wilonski scored to give the Lyons a 1-0 lead.
  • Graduate student Rachael Romain fired a shot on goal before the end of quarter that was saved by Grace Ferguson as Wheaton held a 1-0 edge into the second.
  • Reiter stopped three shots early in the second quarter and fought off a few penalty corners before Hannah Fortin extended the Lyons lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute.
  • Junior Ciaran Cubbage and Cacciapaglia each put shots on goal that were saved by Ferguson before Riley Levrault added the team's third goal of the afternoon to take a 3-0 edge into the half.
  • Beauchain sent in a penalty corner to Romain late in the third and Romain sent the ball wide of the goal as the Cougars defense held Wheaton without a shot on goal in the quarter,
  • Graduate student Greer McCarty got the scarlet and white on the board in the 49th minute of play with a goal and before the end of the match, Romain put a shot on goal that was saved as Clark fell 4-1.

  • McCarty's goal was her sixth of the season and 23rd as a Cougar.

What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Monday afternoon when they travel to Regis for a non-conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
