Second Half Comeback Comes Up Short in Field Hockey 2-1 Loss to Springfield

Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (8-9, 3-6 NEWMAC) hosted Springfield (8-10, 4-5 NEWMAC) in their final home game of the season and battled for 60 minutes, but dropped the match 2-1 to the Pride on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Rachel Reiter recorded a save in the first minute of the contest off a shot from Hailey Gaydos before Gaydos scored in the 10th minute off a feed from Nicolette Morlock to give Springfield a 1-0 lead.
  • Senior Becca Murphy nearly tied the match with a shot in the 14th minute that was stopped by Kaitlyn Parent as Clark trailed after one quarter of action.
  • McCarty got past Parent in the first minute of the second quarter, but Molly Collins recorded a defensive save to keep the match tied.
  • Reiter stopped a pair of shots early in the period before Morlock gave the Pride a 2-0 edge in the 19th minute off a feed from Gaydos.
  • McCarty fired another shot on goal that was saved and Reiter recorded six critical saves before the break as the Cougars trailed 2-0 at the half.
  • Junior Ciaran Cubbage brought Clark back within one in the 40th minute when junior Jenna Beauchain serviced a penalty corner over to graduate student Rachael Romain and Romain fired in a shot that was deflected by Cubbage as the Cougars trailed 2-1.
  • The Cougars earned three penalty corners in the fourth and got shot attempts from junior Alison Kopec, Romain, and junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia with 10 seconds to play that went wide of the mark as Clark fell 2-1.
