Women's Basketball Opens 2024-25 With Convincing 93-59 Victory Over Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (1-0) traveled to Anna Maria (0-1) for their first game of the 2024-25 campaign and came away with a convincing 93-59 victory from Fuller Gymnasium on Friday night.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 9-5 lead as sophomore Kailey Rios connected on a three-pointer and Clark got points from graduate students Jacqueline Faulise and Alaina Schatzabel and first-year Cyriah Coleman.
  • Sophomore Catherine Antwi then hit a pair of three-pointers and a fastbreak layup and two made free throws from first-year Juliette Tarsa gave Clark a 19-12 advantage after one quarter of play.
  • First-year Alyssa Bordonaro hit her first three-pointer as a Cougar early in the second quarter and added a second triple in the middle of the period as Clark held a 25-15 lead.
  • Schatzabel, Rios, and sophomore Olivia Shipley helped the Cougars score six unanswered to take a 31-15 edge and Clark ended the quarter on a 17-8 run sparked by six points from Faulise, four from Tarsa, three from Rios, and a senior Megan Swedberg layup gave the scarlet and white a 48-23 edge at the break.
  • Faulise and Schatzabel combined to score Clark's first six points of the third quarter before Antwi hit a pair of three-pointers and a layup from Rios extended the Cougars lead to 62-33 with 4:50 remaining in the third.
  • Antwi, sophomore Emma Drefs, and Tarsa all converted free throws and a pair of hoops from Antwi and Tarsa gave Clark a 73-41 advantage heading into the fourth.
  • Antwi (5), Coleman (4), Swedberg (4), first-year Elyse Cho (3), junior Ashley Leighton (2), Tarsa (1), and Shipley (1) all scored in the fourth quarter as the Cougars topped the Amcats 93-59.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark grabbed 45 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, registered nine steals, and forced 25 turnovers.
  • Antwi led the team with 24 points and added three steals.
  • Faulise added 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • Tarsa (11) and Rios (10) also reached double-figures.
  • Coleman nearly recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, nine points, and six assists.
  • 12 Cougars scored in the contest.
