WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's basketball team (5-5) closed out the 2024 portion of their schedule with a contest against Saint Lawrence (7-2) and battled with the Saints for 40 minutes, but dropped the game 61-54 on Monday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 7-3 lead as junior Reid Neumann netted five points and senior Kekoa McArdle made a layup before the Saints cut the deficit to two with an Andrew Cowan layup.
- Graduate student Jordan Richard helped spark a 7-0 run with a made triple, with senior Isaiah Taylor and McArdle also scoring as Clark held a 14-9 advantage with 15:14 remaining in the first half.
- First-year Boluwasefe John and Neumann combined to score the Cougars next five points before the Saints rattled off seven straight points to make it a one-possession midway through the period.
- First-year Kyle Squires ended the run with a made layup and three-pointers from both senior Ian Calabrese and Neumann went down as Clark's final points of the half as the Cougars trailed 29-27.
- Richard gave the Cougars a lead early in the second half with a made three-pointer and buried another triple with 13:46 to play as Clark held a 35-33 advantage.
- Calabrese and sophomore Quentin Pridgen combined for Clark's next seven points as the Cougars held on to a 42-41 lead before the Saints netted five straight to take a 46-42 edge with 7:04 remaining.
- Neumann hit a pair of three-pointers within a minute of one another to help tie the contest at 48-48 before Adam Dudzinski buried a triple to give the Saints the lead back.
- John, Calabrese, and senior Bruce Saintilus each hit free throws to help the game back up before a layup off a steal from Taylor gave the scarlet and white a 54-52 advantage with 2:43 to play.
- The Saints held Clark scoreless after the Taylor layup and scored nine unanswered to end the contest as Saint Lawrence came away with a 61-54 victory.
